Rob was born near Swansea in South Wales and now lives with his wife in
North Derbyshire. He was head of the Art department at a Derbyshire school
before leaving in 1997 to concentrate on developing a career as a
professional artist.
This has proved to be a very successful decision. Rob has exhibited his
work throughout the UK and has had exhibitions at The Royal Institute
Gallery in London, The Royal Birmingham Society of Arts, and Cardiff's
Albany Gallery. As well as being purchased by private collectors in the UK,
USA and France, Rob's paintings are also held in the collections of
Nottingham and Leicester Universities. He is perhaps best known for his
watercolours of France and Italy, particularly the areas of Provence and
Liguria. Rob loves the ancient, often crumbling buildings, squares and
fountains found in the towns and villages that surround these parts. With
their soft colours, textures and above all, the play of light and shadow; he
can't help but pick up his paintbrush! Rob is also greatly inspired by the
landscape and architecture of Derbyshire and Yorkshire and often paints the
farms, villages and gardens that are near to his home. All the while light
and shadow form the basis of his paintings and remain his primary source of
inspiration. |
