Eric Kean
Eric was born in Heywood (before the war) and spent his three years at
Salford Art School dodging air raids. After his studies he worked in a
textile design studio until he was called up to join the R.A.F. as a Radar
Technician.
During the 50's he began working as a Television Engineer "to put beans
on the table" for his wife and two children while painting in his spare
time. Later Eric began to paint from the life model at the Bury School of
Arts and Crafts, which he still continues to do to the present day. It was
there, in the 70's, he joined forces with fellow artist Walter Kershaw to
paint large scale wall murals in Bury, Heywood, Rochdale, and Manchester.
Since then the unique style and vivid colours of his paintings have
earned him much respect and success as an artist. Eric has exhibited his
work throughout the North, including a one man show at the Octagon Theatre
in Bolton and with the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts.
Now retired and widowed Eric spends much of his time listening to modern
jazz, drinking plenty of wine, and travelling in France; all of which
inspire his wonderful paintings.
